Teaching Assistant – Year 2 Maths, English & Phonics

About the role

We are looking for a motivated Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming primary school in Haringey, supporting Year 2 pupils with targeted interventions in Maths, English and Phonics. The role starts in September 2026 and includes trial days during the first week back.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver focused Maths intervention sessions for small groups of Year 2 pupils.
• Lead English intervention groups to strengthen reading and writing skills.
• Support Phonics sessions aimed at early literacy development.
• Assist the class teacher with assessment, progress tracking and classroom management.
• Build positive relationships with pupils, fostering confidence and independence.

Required profile

• Experience as a Teaching Assistant, recent graduate, or Psychology graduate seeking classroom experience.
• Enthusiasm for working with young learners and delivering intervention work.
• Ability to work collaboratively with the class teacher and support staff.
• Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to obtain one.

Required skills

• Strong communication skills for delivering clear instructions.
• Organisational ability to manage small‑group activities.
• Basic knowledge of Key Stage 1 curriculum in Maths, English and Phonics.
