Team Leader – English

About the role

The Team Leader – English will head the English provision within the English, Maths and ESOL Team at Carshalton College. Working closely with the Head and Deputy Head of School, the role focuses on raising the quality of teaching, learning and student achievement across GCSE English, ESOL and Functional Skills.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and support staff delivering English qualifications, ensuring outstanding teaching standards.
• Monitor and evaluate the quality of GCSE English and ESOL provision against awarding body expectations.
• Drive continuous curriculum improvement and respond to upcoming curriculum changes.
• Ensure compliance with employer, higher‑education and regulatory requirements.
• Support and develop at‑risk learners to achieve or exceed their potential.
• Contribute to strategic planning and school management initiatives.

Required profile

• Qualified teacher with a recognised teaching qualification.
• Degree or relevant professional qualification in an appropriate subject.
• Proven experience leading or managing GCSE English and/or Functional Skills English.
• Track record of sustained improvement in teaching and learning.
• Strong understanding of quality‑assurance and improvement processes.
• Experience of managing, supporting and developing staff.
