Team Leader – Recycling Centre Operations

About the role

As a Recycling Centre Team Leader at FCC Environment, you will be responsible for directing a team of operatives and machine drivers to ensure safe, efficient and compliant operation of the recycling facility in Cheshire East. The role involves day‑to‑day site management, health and safety oversight and acting as the first point of contact for customer enquiries.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and supervise site staff, ensuring safe and effective recycling operations.
• Prepare weekly rotas, manage labour requirements and coordinate staffing across the Cheshire East contract.
• Maintain site housekeeping, cleanliness and oversee recycling processes.
• Monitor performance metrics and implement efficiency improvements.
• Conduct inspections, audits and routine management system checks.
• Ensure all personnel, contractors and visitors are inducted and work safely.
• Manage consumable stock levels and site equipment.
• Handle absence management and return‑to‑work procedures.
• Serve as the first point of contact for customer complaints, conflicts and incidents.
• Support staff development through training and coaching.

Required profile

• Previous supervisory or team‑lead experience, preferably in waste, recycling or a similar operational environment.
• Strong commitment to health, safety and environmental compliance.
• Good communication and customer service abilities.
• Ability to work independently, lead a small team and adapt to different sites.
• Full driving licence (preferred) and willingness to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
