Team Manager – Children in Need

About the role

Leicester City Council is seeking a Team Manager for its Children in Need service. The role involves leading a multidisciplinary team to deliver support for vulnerable children and families across the city. You will be responsible for performance management, budgeting and fostering a culture of continuous improvement.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and develop a team, setting clear objectives and monitoring performance.
• Conduct quality conversations, provide coaching and mentoring, and manage performance through constructive feedback.
• Oversee staffing, including matrix‑managed, casual, volunteer and contract staff, and manage the team’s budget.
• Promote diversity, inclusion and respect, ensuring fair treatment of staff and service users.
• Drive continuous improvement by encouraging reflection, evaluation and innovation within the team.

Required profile

• Proven experience in people and performance management, preferably in a public or social care setting.
• Ability to build trusting relationships with internal and external partners.
• Strong communication skills and the capacity to adapt style to diverse audiences.
• Commitment to safeguarding and the welfare of vulnerable children.

Required skills

• Use of HR tools for performance and people management.
• Experience conducting quality conversations and delivering coaching.
