Team Manager - Young people Disability Team

About the role

We are seeking a proactive Team Manager to lead the Children and Young People Disability Team for Reading Borough Council. The role involves overseeing service delivery, ensuring compliance with legislation, and supporting staff to provide high‑quality care for young people with disabilities.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver a specialised disability service in line with legislative requirements and performance targets.
• Monitor and manage case files, computerized records and workload distribution.
• Provide expert advice on complex cases and handle complaints from service users, relatives and carers.
• Lead recruitment, induction, training, performance management and professional supervision of team members.
• Manage budgetary allocations, resource planning and contract evaluation for care packages.
• Develop and implement policies, procedures and strategic initiatives for the specialised field.
• Build and maintain internal and external partnerships with agencies and partner organisations.
• Chair and contribute to reviews, planning meetings, case conferences and strategy sessions.

Required profile

• Proven experience in managing a multidisciplinary team within a public‑sector or health‑care setting.
• Strong knowledge of disability legislation, safeguarding and safeguarding policies.
• Ability to handle complex casework, complaints and incident management.
• Experience in budget management, resource planning and contract oversight.
• Excellent leadership, communication and stakeholder‑engagement skills.
