Technical Buyer – Obsolescence Management

About the role

We are looking for an experienced Technical Buyer to manage obsolescence of mechanical components for legacy equipment worldwide. The role sits at the interface of Engineering, Supply Chain and Suppliers, ensuring continuity of supply for complex engineered products.

Key responsibilities

• Procure a wide range of technical and engineered components from approved global suppliers.
• Develop and implement strategies to minimise the impact of component obsolescence across legacy products.
• Identify parts at risk of obsolescence within the Bill of Materials and devise mitigation actions such as last‑time buys, alternative components or redesign.
• Collaborate closely with internal teams (Procurement, Supply Chain, Engineering) and external suppliers and customers.
• Maintain accurate reporting on obsolescence using specialised tools and databases.
• Contribute to continuous improvement of obsolescence management processes.

Required profile

• Strong procurement background with a relevant degree, CIPS qualification or equivalent.
• Solid understanding of mechanical or electromechanical components and ability to read engineering drawings.
• Experience in obsolescence management, product lifecycle support or sourcing obsolete components is highly advantageous.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a proven ability to build relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
