Technical Infrastructure Architect – VMware to Hyper‑V Migration

About the role

A global financial services organisation is seeking an experienced Technical Infrastructure Architect to lead a large‑scale migration from VMware to Microsoft Hyper‑V. The role is a fractional consultancy engagement, working closely with the internal infrastructure team to assess the current estate and define a pragmatic migration roadmap.

Key responsibilities

• Assess the existing VMware estate, including compute, storage and networking components.
• Design the target Microsoft Hyper‑V architecture and develop a phased migration strategy.
• Recommend and evaluate migration tooling and methodologies.
• Collaborate with internal teams to define migration waves, implementation plans and risk mitigation measures.
• Produce high‑level design documentation and support Design Review Board approvals.
• Ensure the internal team can independently operate the Hyper‑V environment after handover.

Required profile

• Proven experience as a Virtualization or Infrastructure Architect delivering VMware‑to‑Hyper‑V migrations.
• Strong enterprise background with VMware and Microsoft Hyper‑V technologies.
• Deep understanding of Windows Server, SAN/storage solutions and networking in large‑scale environments.
• Experience creating migration strategies, phased plans and technical documentation.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
