About the role
The Technical Licensing Officer will support Thurrock Council’s Selective Licensing scheme, which launches in January 2026. You will help ensure safe, well‑managed housing by processing licence applications, managing caseloads and promoting compliance among landlords and agents.
Key responsibilities
- Apply the Housing Act 2004 and related legislation to assess and determine licence applications.
- Use digital case‑management systems and data tools to maintain accurate records and produce performance reports.
- Manage an active caseload, meeting statutory and service deadlines.
- Communicate with landlords, tenants and partner agencies to resolve issues and encourage compliance.
- Support housing‑standard improvements through advice, inspections and, where necessary, enforcement activity.
Required profile
- Experience in housing, environmental health, property licensing or a similar regulatory field.
- Confidence working with legislation, data systems and digital tools.
- Proven ability to manage caseloads and meet deadlines.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills for stakeholder engagement.
- Commitment to improving housing standards and supporting local residents.
