Technical Operative 2 – Datacentre Engineer

About the role

We are looking for a Technical Operative 2 to join our Hatfield Integration Centre as a Datacentre Engineer. The role involves supporting the customisation and deployment of server and networking equipment in high‑performance data‑centre environments.

Key responsibilities

• Rack and stack active network hardware, switches, routers and servers.
• Follow patching schedules and cut‑sheets, installing power and data cables within racks.
• Read and interpret rack elevation diagrams and apply basic IP addressing under guidance.
• Provide on‑site support to remote network and systems administrators.
• Install and configure UPS systems (where required).
• Collaborate with engineering, project management and cross‑functional teams to ensure timely deployments.
• Adhere to all safety procedures, industry standards and environmental guidelines.

Required profile

• Proven experience working in a data‑centre environment.
• Strong understanding of structured cabling solutions.
• Ability to install and test fibre‑optic cables.
• Mechanical aptitude, problem‑solving ability and high attention to detail.
• Comfortable performing hands‑on technical work.
• OSHA 10/30 or equivalent safety certification preferred.

What we offer

• Hourly rate of £15.99 (PAYE) or £20.75 via an approved umbrella company.
• Fixed‑term contract until 31 Oct 2026.
• Monday‑Friday shift, 08:00‑16:00.
• On‑site role at Hatfield AL10 9TW.
