Technical Strategy Lead

About the role

The Technical Strategy Lead will shape TfL’s long‑term technical direction, ensuring our transport assets remain resilient, innovative and cost‑effective over the next 10‑50 years.

Key responsibilities

• Develop long‑term strategies for next‑generation assets such as signalling, power systems and cooling solutions.
• Identify and prioritise organisational challenges that require technical solutions, driving adoption across projects to reduce costs year‑on‑year.
• Monitor emerging technologies (AI, quantum computing, automation) and benchmark against industry best practices.
• Consolidate input from heads of profession and technical disciplines, articulating strategies to secure stakeholder buy‑in.
• Build partnerships with third‑party organisations for trials, innovation projects and commercial collaborations.
• Sponsor research, development and innovation, aligning strategies with capital plans and delivering measurable cost, safety and sustainability benefits.

Required profile

• Extensive experience engaging senior leaders, technical experts and external partners to achieve alignment.
• Strong capability to frame complex challenges, evaluate options and drive innovative solutions.
• Demonstrated ability to influence and secure buy‑in for strategic initiatives.
