Technical Underwriter

About the role

We are partnering with a leading specialist insurer to create a new Technical Underwriter position within its Care division. This role offers a unique chance to become the technical authority for a high‑value, strategically important portfolio, working closely with senior leadership.

Key responsibilities

• Provide technical underwriting expertise on complex, high‑value Care risks.
• Support referral activity and underwriting decision‑making across the team.
• Analyse portfolio performance, trends and outcomes to identify opportunities and risks.
• Contribute to underwriting governance, audits and control frameworks.
• Assist with product development, wording enhancements and underwriting strategy.
• Drive continuous‑improvement initiatives and embed best practices.
• Collaborate with underwriting, distribution and operational teams to support profitable growth.

Required profile

• Strong technical underwriting experience in commercial insurance.
• Background in Care, Commercial Combined, Property, Liability, Financial Lines or a related class.
• Proven ability to handle complex risks, referrals and senior‑level decisions.
• Good understanding of underwriting controls, governance and portfolio performance.
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence and challenge senior stakeholders.
