Telecom Fields Engineer

About the role

We are seeking a Telecom Fields Engineer to deliver professional field engineering services across Scottish Power’s strategic telecommunications network in Scotland. The role involves 24/7 first‑line assurance, routine maintenance, and support for key utility suppliers, working closely with project engineers to meet client expectations.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver projects on time, within cost, quality, health and safety parameters.
• Perform engineering installation, commissioning and assurance/maintenance activities.
• Complete project documentation and monitor progress against plans.
• Identify and escalate issues and risks, providing timely communication to stakeholders.
• Execute first‑line assurance activities 24 × 7 × 365 and report to the service support desk.
• Carry out RMI activities, recommend improvements and cost reductions.
• Ensure compliance with technical, test and quality plans.

Required profile

• Positive can‑do attitude with full UK driving licence.
• Strong technical knowledge of networking principles and proven project implementation record.
• Ability to manage risk, quality and health & safety requirements.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Proficiency with Teams and Microsoft Office.
• Willingness to obtain Scottish Power work authorisations (training provided).

Required skills

• Installation and commissioning of Commtel, SDH, PDH, Radio and Xtran equipment.
• Routing, switching and data networking expertise.
• IP networking – WAN, LAN, MPLS.
• Network monitoring, troubleshooting and maintenance.
• Experience with DC charger, microwave radio technologies (DC & AC).
