Terminal Operations Supervisor

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Terminal Operations Supervisor to lead a busy port terminal team. The role involves overseeing daily cargo handling, ensuring safety, efficiency and meeting customer expectations on a consistent afternoon/evening shift.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise daily terminal operations, guaranteeing safe and timely cargo handling.
• Lead and motivate operatives and agency workers, allocate workloads and monitor performance.
• Conduct safety briefings, equipment checks and ensure PPE compliance before each shift.
• Support delivery of customer service standards, SLAs and operational KPIs.
• Monitor labour and equipment utilisation to maximise efficiency.
• Handle operational administration such as attendance monitoring, invoice processing and employee records.
• Assist with onboarding, coaching and development of new team members.
• Conduct return‑to‑work interviews and support performance management.
• Investigate accidents and incidents, ensuring timely reporting and follow‑up actions.
• Promote continuous improvement in processes, quality and safety.
• Deputise for the Operations Manager when required and collaborate with other supervisors and departments.

Required profile

• Previous supervisory or team‑lead experience, preferably in a terminal, port or similar operational environment.
• Strong organisational and decision‑making abilities.
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to work under pressure.
• Good IT proficiency.
