Therapeutic Education Practitioner – Special Needs

About the role

The Therapeutic Education Practitioner will join a specialist PRU school in North West London, supporting secondary‑aged pupils with complex social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs and challenging behaviour. Working within a multidisciplinary team, you will help create a safe, stable learning environment that promotes personalised education plans.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver and cover a range of lessons for pupils across KS2‑KS4, adapting content to individual needs.
• Develop and implement highly personalised education plans in collaboration with classroom teachers.
• Assess pupils with short‑ and long‑term learning difficulties and identify specific SEN requirements.
• Liaise with nurses, doctors, therapists, social workers and educational psychologists to coordinate support.
• Manage challenging behaviour using proven strategies and maintain positive relationships with students and staff.

Required profile

• Experience working with SEMH, SEBD or ASD pupils in a special‑needs setting.
• Background in managing challenging behaviour and delivering therapeutic education.
• Qualifications such as Team Teach or MAPA training are desirable.
• Ability to work with secondary‑aged students and collaborate with multidisciplinary professionals.
