Trade Compliance Manager – Aerospace & Defence

About the role
We are seeking a Trade Compliance Manager to lead our International Trade Compliance function for a leading British‑owned designer and manufacturer of high‑performance aerospace and defence components. Reporting to the Head of Trade Compliance, you will ensure adherence to UK, EU and US export regulations while supporting the business during government audits.
Key responsibilities
- Provide product and service classifications and maintain records within the ERP system.
- Screen suppliers and customers and liaise with the Chamber of Commerce.
- Ensure compliance with UK export legislation and maintain procedures for BIS, HMRC and Ministry of Defence audits.
- Support BIS/HMRC/MoD audit visits, preparing documentation and training staff.
- Manage compliance with US ITAR, EAR and Dual‑Use regulations, offering guidance to purchasing, engineering, projects and commercial teams.
- Develop and maintain export control processes, templates and forms to facilitate easy compliance.
- Design, deliver and maintain a comprehensive training programme on international trade requirements.
- Lead a team of four trade compliance professionals.
Required profile
- Proven experience in international trade compliance, preferably within aerospace or defence.
- Strong knowledge of UK, EU and US export regulations (EAR, ITAR, Dual‑Use).
- Ability to act as the primary point of contact for internal and external stakeholders on trade control matters.
- Experience representing a business during government compliance audits.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to develop training material.
Required skills
- Familiarity with ERP systems for classification management.
- Understanding of BIS, HMRC and MoD audit requirements.
- Knowledge of US ITAR, EAR and Dual‑Use regulatory frameworks.
What we offer
- Salary up to £75,000 plus bonus, dependent on experience.
- Hybrid working – 4 days onsite, 1 day remote.
