Traffic Operator

About the role

The Traffic Operator will plan and execute collection and delivery schedules using the most cost‑effective methods, ensuring compliance with business objectives, customer service standards and legislative requirements. You will work closely with drivers, warehouse staff and external customers to optimise the flow of goods and maintain high service levels.

Key responsibilities

• Utilise IT and transport operation systems to allocate drivers, vehicles, loads and trailers efficiently.
• Maintain sufficient staffing levels, including agency staff, to meet customer demand.
• Authorise and audit driver timesheets weekly to ensure regulatory compliance.
• Communicate load sheets, handovers, maintenance schedules and operational delays to internal and external stakeholders.
• Participate in cross‑training to provide cover during colleague absences.
• Identify and drive continuous improvement initiatives for the transport operation.
• Maintain a clean, safe working environment in line with health and safety regulations.

Required profile

• Working knowledge of the Highway Code, EU tachograph requirements and Road Transport Regulations.
• Familiarity with Working Time Regulations and Health & Safety legislation.
• Experience in transport or logistics operations, including analysing and solving logistic problems.
• Geographical knowledge relevant to route planning.
• Logistics qualification is desirable.
