Trainee Shop Manager

About the role

Farmfoods is seeking an ambitious individual to join our Canterbury store as a Trainee Shop Manager. Over an 18‑month programme you will work alongside an experienced manager, develop practical retail skills and earn a Level 4 Retail Manager apprenticeship.

Key responsibilities

• Take full accountability for daily shop operations, ensuring a safe, clean and welcoming environment.
• Motivate and guide a team to deliver excellent customer service and meet sales targets.
• Control key costs such as payroll, shrinkage and waste.
• Maintain standards for cash handling, health & safety, stock management, merchandising and presentation.
• Lead recruitment, training and development of store staff.

Required profile

• Previous experience as a team leader or supervisor in retail, hospitality or a customer‑focused environment.
• Strong desire to progress into a management role.
• Willingness to commit to a full‑time schedule of 45 hours across 5 days.
• Ability to meet performance KPIs and pass an end‑point assessment.

• Starting salary £32,648, rising to £35,306 after six months based on performance.
