Trainee Shop Manager – Retail Management Trainee

About the role

Farmfoods is looking for a motivated individual to join our Leeds Armley store as a Trainee Shop Manager. This 18‑month apprenticeship combines on‑the‑job training with a Level 4 Retail Manager qualification, preparing you for full responsibility of a shop.

Key responsibilities

• Take full accountability for the day‑to‑day operation of the store, ensuring a safe, clean and welcoming environment.
• Motivate, guide and develop a team of retail staff to achieve sales and service targets.
• Lead by example, handling cash, stock, merchandising and customer interactions.
• Control key costs such as payroll, shrinkage and waste.
• Maintain standards for health & safety, customer service, cash handling and visual presentation.
• Oversee recruitment, training and performance management of team members.
• Collaborate with the Area Manager to drive continuous improvement.

Required profile

• Previous experience as a team leader or supervisor in retail, hospitality or a customer‑focused environment.
• Strong desire to progress into a management role.
• Ability to work 45 hours per week across a rotating five‑day schedule.
• Good numeracy and literacy skills; additional support is available if needed.
• Positive attitude and commitment to delivering excellent customer service.
