Trainee Workshop Engineer – Production/Assembly Operative

About the role

Our client is seeking a motivated Trainee Workshop Engineer to join their manufacturing team in Reading. This temporary‑to‑permanent position offers full training across production, assembly, testing and machine operation, ideal for candidates with no prior experience who want to develop technical engineering skills.

Key responsibilities

• Rotate through shop‑floor departments including Assembly, Surface Mount Technology (SMT), Testing, PCB Chemical and machine operation.
• Operate and maintain SMT and other production equipment following detailed assembly instructions.
• Carry out quality checks, assist with fault finding and ensure compliance with health & safety standards.
• Maintain a clean, safe and organised working environment.

Required profile

• Positive attitude with a strong willingness to learn.
• Reliable work ethic, good timekeeping and ability to work in a hands‑on shop‑floor environment.
• Adaptable, team‑oriented and able to follow instructions.

Required skills

• Basic understanding of assembly processes (preferred but not required).

What we offer

• Hourly rate of £12.71.
• Training across all departments with no prior experience needed.
• Potential progression to permanent role.
• Working hours: Mon‑Thu 07:30‑16:00, Fri 07:30‑13:30.
