Training and Competence Manager – South West

About the role

The Training and Competence Manager will lead the development of trainee financial planners across the South West region, guiding them to achieve Competent Adviser Status (CAS) and ensuring ongoing competency. You will act as the first‑line supervisor for planners of varying experience, delivering training, assessments and continuous support.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise financial planners in line with the Group T&C Scheme.
• Deliver new‑entrant training and bespoke development interventions.
• Collaborate with the Training & Development team to map trainee journeys to CAS and beyond.
• Conduct role‑plays, live observations and competency assessments, providing constructive feedback.
• Analyse KPIs, identify development needs, agree CPD plans and coach planners accordingly.
• Assist Group Compliance in keeping training material up‑to‑date and creating new content.
• Maintain personal competency and promote a client‑centric culture.

Required profile

• Experience supervising financial planners or similar advisory professionals.
• Strong understanding of relevant legislation and regulatory compliance.
• Ability to design and deliver effective training programmes.
• Excellent communication skills and a collaborative approach with advisers and support staff.
