Training Officer - Initial Training

About the role

West Midlands Police’s Learning & Development Department is seeking a Training Officer for its Uniform Training Team. In this role you will be one of the first points of contact for new recruits, delivering high‑quality learning that prepares probationary police officers and staff for the start of their careers. You will design, develop and deliver programmes that align with the National Policing Curriculum and the College of Policing learning outcomes, fostering an inclusive environment where every learner can succeed.

Key responsibilities

• Design, prepare and deliver engaging learning and development programmes aligned to College of Policing outcomes and organisational priorities.
• Manage the learner journey, creating an inclusive environment that supports diverse learning styles and abilities.
• Coach, mentor and assess learners, providing constructive feedback to maximise performance.
• Lead practical learning activities and role‑play assessments to build operational competence.
• Review and update learning materials to ensure they remain current, evidence‑based and operationally effective.
• Collaborate with subject‑matter experts and stakeholders to continuously improve learning programmes.
• Promote professional standards, equality, diversity and inclusion throughout all learning activities.
• Embed new legislation, best practice and operational developments into training delivery.
