About the role
The Training Programme Director (TPD) for Internal Medicine Training Stage One (IMT1) in Greater Manchester will support the Head of School in shaping the strategic direction of the School of Medicine. The role sits on the School Board and leads key initiatives to improve recruitment, retention and the overall training experience for junior doctors.
Key responsibilities
- Develop and implement the School’s Recruitment and Retention Strategy.
- Contribute to the School Operational Programme and attend School Board meetings.
- Lead a new hub for educator development, providing guidance to new TPDs and educational supervisors.
- Establish robust governance procedures for ARCPs and manage training amendments.
- Coordinate teaching days (approximately two per month) and ensure timely resolution of queries.
- Provide a point of contact for urgent matters and support doctors returning from periods out of training.
- Organise annual face‑to‑face inductions and interim ARCPs for trainees.
Required profile
- Significant experience in medical education leadership or training programme management.
- Strong understanding of ARCP processes, governance and NHS training structures.
- Proven ability to develop strategic recruitment and retention initiatives.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
