Tramper Container Driver (HGV Class 1) – Portsmouth

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Tramper Container Driver to operate HGV Class 1 articulated lorries on behalf of our client in the Portsmouth and Chichester ports. The role involves transporting containers on a temporary basis with immediate start and flexible shift patterns, including early‑morning starts.

Key responsibilities

• Operate automatic‑gear HGV Class 1 (C&E) vehicles for container pick‑up and delivery.
• Log collections, drops and status updates in real‑time using a smartphone or tablet.
• Perform daily vehicle inspections and report any defects.
• Comply with site‑specific procedures, health & safety policies and Working Time Directive regulations.
• Maintain professional service standards for clients and customers.

Required profile

• Valid HGV Class 1 (C&E) licence with at least one year of container‑driving experience.
• DP World Card and Driver Certificate of Professional Competence (DCPC).
• Valid Digital Tachograph card.
• Ability to use electronic devices (EPODs, smartphones, instruction screens).
• No more than six penalty points on your driving licence and a good level of spoken and written English.

Required skills

• HGV Class 1 (C&E) licence operation.
• DP World Card usage.
• Driver Certificate of Professional Competence (DCPC).
• Digital Tachograph operation.
• Electronic device handling for route and delivery logging.
