Transport Manager

About the role

Grundon is seeking a motivated Transport Manager to lead waste collection operations at the Bishops Cleeve depot in Swindon. Reporting to the Depot Operations Manager, you will ensure safe, efficient and reliable services while supporting a culture of continuous improvement.

Key responsibilities

• Motivate and support depot teams to achieve high performance and service standards.
• Oversee employee development, performance reviews, training, inductions and probation processes.
• Monitor attendance, conduct, and take appropriate action in line with company policies.
• Lead regular briefings, toolbox talks and end‑of‑shift debriefs with drivers and crews.
• Administer driver bonus schemes and ensure compliance with driver hours legislation.
• Promote safety by identifying, reporting and addressing accidents, incidents and training needs.
• Collaborate with Fleet and Workshop teams to maintain a road‑worthy vehicle fleet.
• Prepare the depot for internal audits, regulatory inspections and compliance checks, including FORS standards and Operator Licence requirements.
• Champion colleague wellbeing and mental health, fostering an inclusive workplace.

Required profile

• Proven experience in transport or logistics management, preferably within waste collection.
• Strong leadership and people‑management skills.
• Excellent knowledge of health, safety and regulatory compliance for transport operations.
• Ability to communicate clearly and drive continuous improvement.
