Transport Planner

About the role

We are looking for an organised and proactive Transport Planner to join our family‑run business in Halstead, Essex. You will be responsible for creating efficient transport schedules, supporting a high‑value goods operation and ensuring excellent customer service.

Key responsibilities

• Plan and coordinate daily and weekly transport schedules to maximise fleet efficiency and vehicle utilisation.
• Allocate vehicles and drivers while ensuring compliance with Driver Hours Regulations and relevant transport legislation.
• Monitor live transport operations, responding quickly to delays, breakdowns and last‑minute changes.
• Liaise with drivers, customers and internal departments to ensure smooth delivery of services.
• Handle inbound telephone enquiries professionally and provide excellent customer service.
• Schedule and confirm customer deliveries, meeting booking requirements.
• Accurately input, maintain and update transport data and operational records.
• Prepare daily delivery paperwork and driver documentation.
• Identify opportunities to improve planning processes, operational efficiency and customer service standards.

Required profile

• Ability to work efficiently both independently and as part of a team.

Required skills

• Knowledge of Driver Hours Regulations and transport legislation.
• Familiarity with transport management and scheduling processes.
• Proficiency in data entry, record‑keeping and basic office software.
