Trust Grade Doctor (ST3 Equivalent) – Trauma & Orthopaedics

About the role

The Trust Grade Doctor (ST3 equivalent) will join the Trauma & Orthopaedics team at Newham Hospital, a major trauma centre within Barts Health NHS Trust. This fixed‑term position offers the chance to develop surgical and clinical expertise in a busy tertiary referral environment.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver high‑quality patient care across inpatient, outpatient and emergency settings.
• Participate in daily trauma meetings, ward rounds, fracture clinics and theatre lists.
• Assess and manage acute trauma cases, including polytrauma, under consultant supervision.
• Assist in operative procedures and develop surgical skills appropriate to ST3 level.
• Take part in the on‑call rota for Trauma & Orthopaedics.
• Contribute to teaching junior doctors and medical students.
• Engage in clinical audit, research and quality‑improvement projects.

Required profile

• Fully qualified doctor at ST3 (Trust Grade) level.
• Motivated, committed and able to work under consultant supervision.
• Willingness to participate in teaching and research activities.

Required skills

• Clinical assessment of trauma and orthopaedic patients.
• Surgical assistance in orthopaedic procedures.
• Knowledge of trauma pathways and emergency care.
