Underwriting Governance Manager

About the role

This newly created position sits within a leading specialist insurer’s Underwriting Enablement Team. You will blend deep technical underwriting knowledge with governance oversight, leading a small team while shaping standards and processes across the organisation.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain and enforce underwriting governance standards, reviewing non‑standard endorsements and supporting delegated authority processes.
• Monitor compliance with underwriting guidelines, legal and regulatory changes, and produce governance reporting.
• Lead, coach and develop the Underwriting Enablement Team, allocating workloads and improving ways of working.
• Collaborate with Product, Pricing and Underwriting teams to drive process improvements and operational efficiencies.
• Support governance, reinsurance and operational projects, acting as a key point of contact for technical underwriting queries.

Required profile

• Significant experience in an insurance underwriting environment.
• Strong technical underwriting knowledge and familiarity with underwriting controls, governance or regulatory requirements.
• Proven experience leading, mentoring or coaching staff.
• Excellent stakeholder management and communication abilities.
• Analytical, organised and proactive with a focus on continuous improvement.
