Unit Operator – Slough Power Station

About the role

The Unit Operator will join a shift team at Slough Power Station, operating a biomass thermal boiler that supplies electricity, steam and district heating. Working a 5‑week rolling shift pattern, you will help maintain base‑load generation while adhering to strict safety and environmental standards.

Key responsibilities

• Apply company safety procedures to achieve zero accidents.
• Comply with IPPC permits and maintain ISO 14001 accreditation.
• Lead by example in safety, environmental stewardship, time‑keeping and professionalism.
• Maintain competency for all assigned plant equipment.
• Support the Operations Manager with staff development and information sharing.
• Assist the Shift Team Leader in all operational activities.

Required profile

• Minimum safety accreditation – IOSH or NEBOSH.
• Experience operating solid‑fuel boilers, steam turbines and associated auxiliary equipment.
• Knowledge of Safe Systems of Work, Power Generation Safety Rules and Authorised Person competence.
• Strong interpersonal and leadership abilities to work with station stakeholders and manage shift teams.
• Familiarity with environmental legislation, ISO 14001 and IPPC requirements.
