University Campus Builder / Handyman

About the role

This permanent, in‑house position is based on a large university estate in Reading. You will carry out a wide variety of building repairs and maintenance across live campus buildings, roads, pathways and drainage systems.

Key responsibilities

• Road, pathway and paving repairs
• Brickwork, blockwork and small concrete repairs
• Drainage repairs, unblocking and minor excavation work
• Roofing, guttering, lead flashing and chimney repairs
• Door repairs, ironmongery, shelving, signage and general carpentry
• Basic plumbing repairs to sanitary ware, toilets, sinks and pipework
• Installation of wooden or concrete ramps and handrails
• General building‑fabric repairs across occupied campus buildings
• Planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance
• Logging work, risk assessments and updates via a CAFM system

Required profile

• General Builder, Multi‑Trade Operative or Building Fabric Technician
• Strong background in brickwork, drainage, roofing or external works
• NVQ Level 3 / City & Guilds or time‑served equivalent
• Ability to work independently and manage varied repair work
• Professional, reliable and customer‑facing attitude
• Full UK driving licence
