Unqualified Teaching Assistant – SEND & SEMH Specialist

About the role

We are seeking dedicated and resilient unqualified Teaching Assistants to join specialist SEND and SEMH provisions in Chorley. This term‑time only, full‑time position offers the chance to support young people with additional needs and gain valuable experience in a supportive school environment.

Key responsibilities

• Support students with SEND and SEMH needs on a 1:1 or small‑group basis.
• Assist teachers in delivering engaging, differentiated learning activities.
• Promote positive behaviour and help students regulate emotions.
• Build trusting relationships to encourage student engagement.
• Support pupils inside and outside the classroom and help implement individual learning plans.
• Maintain a safe, structured, and nurturing learning environment.
• Collaborate with teachers, therapists, and pastoral teams.
• Follow safeguarding and school policies at all times.

Required profile

• A genuine interest in supporting children and young people with additional needs.
• Enhanced Child DBS (or willingness to obtain one).
• At least two years of employment history in the last four years with references.
• Strong communication skills and ability to build positive relationships.
• Resilient, patient and adaptable approach.
