VAT Accountant – 12‑month contract

About the role

This 12‑month contract position sits within the Tax COE Europe team in Chester. You will be responsible for VAT compliance across multiple European markets, ensuring accurate reporting and timely submissions while providing expert advice to internal stakeholders.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual VAT returns and related indirect tax filings using Excel and specialised tax tools.
• Obtain and manage VAT submission approvals, process payment requests and archive documentation.
• Perform VAT General Ledger reconciliations, resolve discrepancies and maintain accurate VAT coding in the accounting system.
• Respond to VAT compliance queries from the business and liaise with tax authorities during audits.
• Monitor changes in VAT legislation and advise the team on required adjustments.
• Support the Tax Technology team with testing and implementation of new requirements.

Required profile

• Minimum 2 years of VAT compliance experience in a multinational environment.
• Strong knowledge of UK and European VAT regulations.
• Fluency in English and ability to work autonomously.
• Excellent organisational skills and ability to manage competing priorities.
• Experience collaborating with diverse internal and external stakeholders.
