VAT Lead

About the role

We are partnering with a global consumer‑goods leader to find a UK&I VAT Lead for a 12‑month contract based in Slough. Working hybrid (2 days in the office), you will support the VAT Manager in delivering end‑to‑end VAT compliance across 15 UK and Irish entities.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare, review, submit and settle net VAT returns (≈£300m) ensuring ledger accuracy and statutory compliance.
• Serve as the primary contact for VAT queries from business units, tax authorities, customers and suppliers.
• Monitor VAT accounting against Senior Accounting Officer (SAO) requirements, conduct control reviews and support audits.
• Drive digital efficiencies, process automation and system transformations for VAT reporting.
• Assist with broader tax compliance projects such as Plastic Packaging Tax and IR35.
• Provide day‑to‑day guidance to VAT specialists and deputise for the VAT Manager as needed.

Required profile

• ACA, ACCA, CTA or equivalent qualification, or comparable VAT experience (4‑6+ years).
• Proven experience in UK VAT compliance within complex, multi‑ERP environments.
• Strong understanding of tax risk management, internal controls and SAO compliance.
• Excellent communication and influencing skills.
