Veterinary Surgeon – Team Lead (Development Team Leader)

About the role
We are looking for a highly motivated Veterinary Surgeon to lead the development and training of our newly qualified clinicians at our Ashton‑under‑Lyne practice. The role combines clinical leadership, mentorship and line‑management, ensuring high standards of care and compliance with RCVS regulations.
Key responsibilities
- Oversee clinical development and training of new graduate and <3‑year qualified vets on site.
- Serve as a VetGDP Advisor, supporting recent graduates through their training.
- Collaborate with the Lead Vet to identify and address training gaps.
- Support delivery of training sessions and clinical development programmes.
- Line‑manage and mentor recent graduates, providing guidance, feedback and support.
- In the absence of a Lead Vet, co‑manage experienced veterinary surgeons with the Practice Manager and Clinical Operations Lead.
- Assist with setting performance goals, conducting appraisals and supporting career development.
- Help maintain and improve clinical standards and conduct clinical audit activity.
- Contribute to clinical governance by reviewing performance and ensuring compliance.
- Attend site leadership meetings, deputise at lead‑vet meetings and help shape strategic direction.
- Foster an inclusive team culture that prioritises patient care, professional growth and clinical excellence.
Required profile
- MRCVS/FRCVS qualification.
- VetGDP accreditation.
- Clinical experience in veterinary practice with a strong foundation in mentoring and developing others.
- Excellent communication, leadership and organisational skills, with a passion for supporting newly qualified clinicians.
- Previous experience in training and mentoring new graduates is desirable but not essential.
- Understanding of clinical governance and its role in maintaining standards of care.
