Veterinary Technician

About the role
Join the British Army as a Veterinary Technician and provide essential care for patrol dogs and cavalry horses. You will work both in field environments and clinical settings while travelling internationally, gaining unique military experience alongside professional veterinary practice.
Key responsibilities
- Provide medical treatment and nursing care for injured patrol dogs.
- Attend to sick and injured cavalry horses in both field and clinic environments.
- Assist veterinary surgeons during examinations, surgeries and routine procedures.
- Maintain animal health records and ensure compliance with veterinary regulations.
- Participate in military training exercises and international deployments as required.
Required profile
- Age between 17 years 6 months and 35 years 6 months.
- Qualified Veterinary Nurse, registered with the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS).
- Ability to pass a basic fitness test.
Required skills
- Veterinary nursing.
- Animal handling and care.
- Knowledge of veterinary clinical procedures.

- Salary of £27,282 per year.
- 30 days annual leave plus bank holidays and additional leave after operations.

- Initial military training at Pirbright (Surrey) or Winchester (Hampshire) and trade training at the Defence Animal Centre, Melton Mowbray.
- Standard working hours 8:30 am‑5:00 pm, Monday‑Friday when not on operations.
