VMware/Nutanix Infrastructure Engineer

About the role

We are partnering with a well‑established organisation that has recently completed a major upgrade of its VMware and Nutanix platforms. The role is a contract position (6‑12 months) based hybrid in Surrey, offering the chance to own and optimise a critical virtualisation estate.

Key responsibilities

• Take day‑to‑day ownership of VMware and Nutanix environments, ensuring security, resilience and performance.
• Plan and execute upgrades of VMware, Nutanix, firmware and related infrastructure components.
• Manage patching, lifecycle processes and proactive maintenance activities.
• Diagnose and resolve complex infrastructure issues, acting as the senior escalation point.
• Produce and maintain operational and design documentation.
• Collaborate with networking, security and other infrastructure teams.
• Contribute to disaster‑recovery, resilience and business‑continuity planning.
• Identify and implement automation opportunities to improve operational efficiency.
• Mentor and up‑skill members of the internal infrastructure team.

Required profile

• Strong commercial experience administering enterprise VMware environments.
• Hands‑on experience with Nutanix AHV and hyper‑converged infrastructure.
• Solid understanding of high‑availability, clustering and disaster‑recovery concepts.
• Experience with Windows Server infrastructure.
• Excellent troubleshooting, documentation and communication abilities.
