Volunteering Coordinator

About the role

The Hospice of St Francis is seeking a full‑time Volunteering Coordinator to lead the recruitment, onboarding and management of volunteers across all hospice services. You will ensure a seamless volunteer experience while maintaining compliance with legal and organisational standards.

Key responsibilities

• Lead end‑to‑end recruitment and onboarding for volunteers in clinical, wellbeing, family support, retail, fundraising, finance, facilities and administrative roles.
• Deliver monthly Introduction to Volunteering sessions and follow‑up engagement.
• Maintain recruitment pipelines, support high‑priority campaigns and monitor volunteer compliance, including DBS checks and mandatory training.
• Provide front‑line guidance to teams on volunteer involvement, co‑facilitate training sessions and manage cross‑departmental relationships.
• Oversee volunteer lifecycle processes: planning, recruitment, induction, training, supervision, recognition, development and exit.
• Handle People Team duties such as answering queries, monitoring inboxes and covering telephone/email enquiries.
• Organise volunteer rota planning for key operational roles, resolve gaps and allocate mentors.

Required profile

• Experience in volunteer recruitment, onboarding and compliance within a charitable or healthcare setting.
• Strong understanding of DBS, safeguarding and mandatory training requirements.
• Ability to build relationships across departments and provide clear guidance on volunteer processes.
• Excellent organisational skills for managing rosters, data analysis and service improvement initiatives.
