About the role
We are seeking a Vulnerable Pupils Support Officer to join the Education and SEND service within Torbay Council’s Vulnerable Pupils team. The role focuses on promoting education, inclusion and positive outcomes for vulnerable children and young people across Torbay, ensuring they receive the support they need to achieve their potential.
Key responsibilities
- Collaborate with Children’s Services, schools and multi‑agency partners to deliver coordinated support.
- Conduct home visits, support attendance processes and work with families who choose home education.
- Ensure the child’s voice is central to planning and decision‑making.
- Support casework, gather and analyse information, and arrange risk‑of‑exclusion and medical panel meetings.
- Maintain accurate records and monitor outcomes.
- Travel across Torbay and work flexibly, including lone working in the community.
Required profile
- Proactive, compassionate practitioner confident working independently and in lone‑working situations.
- Experience with vulnerable or hard‑to‑reach children, young people and families.
- Good understanding of safeguarding, education systems and multi‑agency working.
- Strong attention to detail and organisational skills.
