Waking Night Residential Childcare Support Worker

About the role
We are seeking a dedicated Waking Night Residential Childcare Support Worker to join Area Camden in Soham. You will provide safe, supportive care throughout the night for children and young people living in our residential homes.
Key responsibilities
- Remain awake and alert for the full 12‑hour night shift (20:00‑08:00).
- Ensure the safety and wellbeing of each child throughout the night.
- Provide empathy, reassurance and support as needed.
- Assist with personalised bedtime routines and occasional activities.
- Accurately record information using the organisation’s computer systems.
- Follow the Philomena protocol for reporting a missing child.
- Communicate professionally with out‑of‑hours services and handle calls.
- Adhere to all Area Camden policies and act as a positive role model.
Required profile
- Team‑oriented with energy and enthusiasm.
- Understanding of child safeguarding principles.
- Ability to follow delegated tasks and produce detailed handovers.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Organised, able to plan and prepare work.
- Willingness to work towards a Level 3 Diploma for Residential Childcare if not already held.
Required skills
- Basic computer literacy for recording information.
What we offer
- Salary up to £31,867.18 per annum (dependent on qualification).

- Rotational weekly rota – minimum 48 hours per week (168 hours per month).
- 236 hours annual leave, increasing by 12 hours per year for three years (up to 272 hours).
