Ward Clerk – Family Newborn Care Unit

About the role

The Ward Clerk supports the Family Newborn Care Unit at IWK Health by handling reception and clerical tasks that keep the unit running smoothly. This full‑time permanent position works on a 10.5‑hour shift schedule, providing essential administrative support to staff, patients and families.

Key responsibilities

• Perform data entry and maintain unit databases.
• Order, receive and manage supplies and equipment.
• Coordinate internal transport functions as required.
• Answer incoming calls and direct inquiries to appropriate personnel.
• Provide front‑desk reception services, including greeting visitors and handling paperwork.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent; additional clerical training is an asset.
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy in data handling.
• Excellent communication skills and a courteous manner with patients, families and staff.
• Ability to work flexible 10.5‑hour shifts, including nights.
• Union membership in NSGEU Off&Cler, Admin Professionals Bargaining Unit.
