Ward Host – Patient Dining Team (Southampton)

About the role

We are seeking enthusiastic Ward Hosts to join the patient dining team at Southampton General Hospital. Working Monday‑Friday from 14:30 to 19:00, you will help deliver high‑quality meals and beverages to patients, ensuring a pleasant and hygienic dining experience.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate patient meal and beverage service according to the ward timing schedule.
• Take food orders using the tablet electronic ordering system for lunch and supper.
• Maintain bedside menus, special therapeutic menus, and ensure they are clean and up‑to‑date.
• Prepare and serve hot and cold beverages, loading the appropriate trolley and equipment.
• Load regeneration ovens, monitor and record food temperatures, and ensure compliance with food‑hygiene regulations.
• Clear cutlery, crockery and condiments after each service and wash all utensils used.
• Monitor fridge and freezer temperatures daily and report any issues.
• Provide fresh drinking water to patients, changing water jugs twice daily.
• Uphold ward kitchen hygiene standards and follow food safety procedures.

Required profile

• Good basic education with reading and writing skills.
• Understanding of basic health and safety in a food‑service environment.
• Experience or familiarity with catering or hospital food service is desirable.

Required skills

• Proficiency with a tablet electronic ordering system.
