Ward Manager

About the role

You will lead a secure mental health ward for men at Cygnet Bury Hospital, overseeing high‑quality nursing care and supporting a multidisciplinary team. The role combines clinical leadership, staff development and compliance with regulatory standards.

Key responsibilities

• Provide the highest standard of nursing care and act as a role model for junior staff.
• Coordinate all clinical aspects of the ward and ensure cooperation between departments.
• Implement and monitor clinical and administrative policies, procedures and regulations.
• Support staff through debriefs, appraisals, training and evidence‑based practice development.
• Participate in the on‑call system as the first point of contact for ward‑based staff outside normal hours.
• Lead by example to maintain consistently high standards of clinical care and documentation.

Required profile

• Commitment to delivering improvement strategies across clinical services.
• Experience in an inpatient setting, preferably acute or forensic mental health.
• Proven ability to manage change, lead initiatives and develop staff.
• Open, compassionate, honest and resilient attitude.
• Capability to undertake audits, develop action plans and ensure completion.
• Good knowledge of the Mental Health Act 1983 and current nursing practices.
• Focus on patient recovery, risk monitoring and reduction.
