Ward Sister – Cardiac Care Unit (CCU)

About the role

We are looking for an experienced Ward Sister to lead the Cardiac Care Unit (CCU) at Frimley Park Hospital. The CCU is a 10‑bed unit delivering level 1 and 2 care for acute coronary syndrome, heart failure, cardiogenic shock and other complex cardiac conditions. This full‑time secondment role involves ensuring safe, high‑quality patient care while supporting the nursing team and driving service improvement.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the nursing team to provide safe, high‑quality care for critically ill cardiac patients.
• Collaborate with the Ward Manager on day‑to‑day ward operations, staffing and resource allocation.
• Mentor, train and appraise staff to support professional development.
• Contribute to education and development of junior and senior nursing staff.
• Promote the unit’s profile and support its evolution as a centre of excellence within the Trust and wider healthcare community.

Required profile

• Registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC).
• Substantial experience in cardiology, including significant Band 5 experience taking charge of a cardiac unit.
• Completed cardiology/acute‑care training and Advanced Life Support (ALS) certification.
• Proactive, clinically skilled and committed to delivering excellent patient care.

Required skills

• Cardiology/acute‑care training.

• Immediate Life Support (ILS) certification.
• Intra‑Aortic Balloon Pump (IABP) management (desirable).
• Non‑Invasive Ventilation (NIV) management (desirable).
• 12‑lead ECG interpretation.
