Ward Sister / Charge Nurse – Days & Nights Rotation

About the role

We are seeking a dedicated Ward Sister/Charge Nurse to join the surgical team at Oaks Hospital in Colchester. You will provide high‑quality clinical care to a varied surgical case mix, supporting the Ward Manager and stepping in to lead the department when required.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver exceptional patient care across the peri‑operative pathway.
• Lead the ward in the absence of the Ward Manager, ensuring smooth daily operations.
• Contribute to service development by identifying improvement opportunities.
• Support and mentor staff to achieve their professional goals.
• Cover on‑call duties and maintain a positive, blame‑free culture.

Required profile

• Registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC).
• Proven leadership experience in a clinical setting.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
• Flexibility to cover days and nights rotation.

Required skills

• Computer skills for clinical documentation and reporting.
