Warehouse Operator – Edinburgh

About the role

Barrett Steel Limited, the UK’s largest independent steel stockholder, is seeking a full‑time Warehouse Operator for its Edinburgh site. You will play a key part in ensuring safe and efficient handling of steel products, supporting the company’s commitment to reliable, value‑driven service.

Key responsibilities

• Receive, unload and load steel products safely.
• Operate forklifts and other material‑handling equipment.
• Pack, label and prepare orders for dispatch.
• Maintain accurate inventory records and documentation.
• Organise materials within the warehouse for optimal storage and retrieval.
• Follow health and safety procedures and keep the work area clean.
• Collaborate with operations and logistics teams to meet delivery schedules.

Required profile

• Experience handling heavy goods such as steel or similar materials.
• Proven ability to work in a physically demanding environment.
• Strong organisational and basic numeracy skills for stock control.
• Effective teamwork and communication with a safety‑focused work ethic.
• Willingness to undertake training and adhere to company quality standards.

Required skills

• Certified forklift operation.
• Use of warehouse equipment (e.g., pallet trucks, hoists).
• Health & safety compliance, including manual handling and PPE usage.
• Stock control documentation and order checking.
