Waste Officer – Reading (Full‑time Temporary Cover)

About the role

The Waste Officer will join an established environmental services company, helping customers reduce their impact on the environment by ensuring waste is correctly segregated and managed. The role is a full‑time temporary cover position, working Monday to Friday on site in Reading.

Key responsibilities

• Organise customers' waste from bin bags into the correct recycling and non‑recycling bins.
• Collect, sort and dispose of waste in line with company procedures and environmental regulations.
• Operate waste handling equipment safely, including compactors and balers.
• Load and unload waste containers using proper lifting techniques.
• Maintain clean and hazard‑free waste areas and conduct routine inspections.
• Follow health and safety protocols at all times.
• Collaborate with team members to improve waste management processes.

Required profile

• Reliability and good communication skills.
• Strong attention to detail when sorting waste.
• Physical fitness for manual tasks and heavy lifting.
• Willingness to help customers create a cleaner environment.
• Experience in the waste industry or customer‑facing roles is desirable but not essential.

Required skills

• Basic mechanical knowledge.
• Ability to perform heavy lifting safely.
