Water Security & Resilience Policy Advisor

About the role

The Water Security & Resilience Policy Advisor will shape policy and legislative measures to protect the UK water sector from both malicious and non‑malicious threats. Working within the Floods & Water Directorate, the role also participates in an out‑of‑hours emergency response rota covering water supply, flooding and CBRN incidents.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the design, delivery and implementation of water security and resilience policies.
• Collaborate with internal departments, external stakeholders and subject‑matter experts to align policy initiatives.
• Prepare briefings and contribute to advice for Ministers and senior civil servants.
• Draft responses to written correspondence and Parliamentary Questions.
• Participate in the emergency response rota for water‑related incidents, including CBRN events.

Required profile

• Motivated individual with a strong interest in water security, national security policy and emergency response.
• Ability to build trusted relationships across government, arm’s‑length bodies and the water sector.
• Experience working in a programmatic, agile environment is advantageous.
