Water Supply Production Operator – Shift Work

About the role

Northumbrian Water is seeking a Water Supply Production Operator to join the Wear Valley Water Treatment Works team. This full‑time permanent position works on a 37‑hour week with shift patterns and offers a salary of £29,325‑£34,500 per year plus a 20% shift allowance.

Key responsibilities

• Operate the water treatment process using company monitoring systems.
• Identify performance trends and conduct fault‑finding investigations when issues arise.
• Perform laboratory testing, record results for regulatory audits and support decision‑making.
• Handle chemicals safely and validate/calibrate instruments essential to the treatment process.
• Support unit cleaning, general site maintenance and tank cleaning to remove waste material.

Required profile

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong problem‑solving ability with quick response to operational issues.
• Team‑player who can also work independently outdoors with minimal supervision.
• Commitment to professional development and adherence to health, safety and environmental standards.
