Welder – £40,016 plus shift allowance

About the role

BAE Systems is seeking an experienced welder to join the team delivering Type 26 frigates. The role is based onsite in Glasgow, covering Govan and Scotstoun, with a competitive salary of £40,016 plus a 33% shift allowance where applicable.

Key responsibilities

• Weld carbon steel, stainless steel and aluminium using MMA, MAG, MIG, FCAW and automatic/semi‑automatic processes such as Submerged Arc and BUG‑O.
• Produce high‑quality butt and fillet welds, including ceramic‑tile work within FCAW/MAG processes.
• Carry out self‑verification of welds to ensure compliance with visual and NDE standards.
• Follow safe working practices, adhering to SHE requirements and applying effective fume‑control measures.

Required profile

• Modern Apprenticeship certificate (Trade Papers) and relevant mechanical qualifications (SVQ3, City & Guilds or equivalent).
• Experience in ceramic‑tile welding, Flux‑Cored Arc Welding, Metal‑Cored Arc Welding and associated equipment.
• Proven ability to weld carbon‑steel materials in the 4–15 mm thickness range.
• Background in maritime, construction, manufacturing or similar environments.
