Welder – Shipbuilding

About the role

BAE Systems is seeking an experienced welder to join its shipbuilding team delivering the Type 26 frigates. The role is based onsite in Glasgow (Govan and Scotstoun) and involves working on high‑specification naval projects.

Key responsibilities

• Perform welding of carbon steel, stainless steel and aluminium using MMA, MAG, MIG, FCAW and automated processes such as Submerged Arc and BUG‑O.
• Produce high‑quality butt and fillet welds, including ceramic‑tile work within FCAW/MAG processes.
• Self‑verify welds to ensure compliance with visual and NDE standards.
• Follow strict SHE requirements and apply effective fume‑control measures.

Required profile

• Modern Apprenticeship certificate (Trade Papers) and relevant mechanical qualifications (SVQ3, City & Guilds or equivalent).
• Experience in ceramic‑tile welding, flux‑cored and metal‑cored arc welding.
• Background in maritime, construction, manufacturing or similar environments.
• Ability to work shift patterns including days, nights and weekends.
