Works Manager – Construction Projects

About the role

RGB Recruitment is partnering with a well‑established contractor to find a Works Manager who will lead a portfolio of small works projects across the South West. You will have full ownership from pre‑construction through to handover, building strong client relationships while ensuring projects are delivered safely, on time and within budget.

Key responsibilities

• Lead delivery of multiple small works projects (£0.2‑2 million) from inception to completion.
• Support business development and contribute to division growth.
• Maintain relationships with clients, consultants and subcontractors.
• Oversee programmes, budgets, procurement and resource planning.
• Monitor progress, manage risks and provide regular updates to senior management.
• Ensure contractual obligations are met and projects stay on schedule and budget.
• Manage tendering and pre‑construction activities as required.
• Lead, motivate and develop project teams, providing guidance for high performance.
• Recruit, train and mentor staff to foster professional development.
• Ensure full compliance with Health & Safety legislation, company policies and industry standards.
• Identify continuous‑improvement opportunities and implement best practices.
• Resolve project and contractual issues promptly and professionally.

Required profile

• Proven experience as a Works Manager, Contracts Manager or similar role in construction.
• Track record delivering projects up to £2 million.
• Strong leadership, organisational and decision‑making abilities.
• Commercial awareness with experience managing budgets and financial performance.
• Ability to work independently, prioritise workloads and solve problems effectively.
• Excellent communication and relationship‑building skills.
• Full UK driving licence.

Required skills

• SMSTS certification.
• First Aid at Work certification.
• CSCS Card.
